What to do in the Assumption day in Varese?

On 15 August, FAI opens the doors of its monuments in Varese to a special event: the picnic of the Assumption day. You can choose between the charming Villa Della Porta Bozzolo to Casalzuigno or the historic Monastery of Torba in Gornate Olona.

From 10 to 18 the Villa will open its doors to all visitors who want to spend a different Assumption.

There will be the possibility of making guided visits to Villa and join the path-game “investigations in Villa”, which we will discover the secrets of an 18th-century noble family.

At 14.30 for children is playful and creative laboratory “take flight” (only on reservation): with wooden sticks, colored paper, twine, glue and crayons kite will be created that will be used in a breathtaking flight race, housed in the Villa theatre.

Walking in the unspoilt nature of the Valle Olona, guided visits to the monastery with the guides of FAI, lots of entertainment and surprises, especially for children.

Promises to be an Assumption day really unique at the Monastery of Torba.

Veratti Hall hosts a photographic exhibition dedicated to Ivan Bianchi

In Varese until August 31 in the Veratti Hall you can enjoy a dip in the past of Tsarist russia, with the exhibition “Visions of Empire: Ivan Bianchi, an insubre at the Court of Tsar”.

Terra Insubre has decided to devote an exhibition to the pioneer of photography Ivan Bianchi, witch from varese migrate to ticino. The exhibition will focus on shots taken by the artist in St. Petersburg between 1852 and 1854.

The locations that will host the excellence of this artist are those of Veratti Hall, acquired by the city of Varese in 1986 by the homonymous family and become home to exhibitions and exhibitions of Museums, after the restoration of 1992.

The exhibition, a collaboration with the cultural centre the Ravelin and Ivan Bianchi Store of Locarno, give an opportunity to admire the first St. Petersburg picture, representing, for the years in which they were taken, also a puzzle piece in the history of photography.

Classical music in historic residences in Varese

July and September will still lead the classical music in historic residences in Varese, with the new edition of “music in historic homes-2014 Season”, exhibition that offers concerts and performances within some suggestive corners of the province.

With the collaboration of the Provincia of Varese and Tourism Agency, the review still offers five concerts to be held in LMornago, Comerio, Daverio, Azzate e Gazzada Schianno. To participate will be the ORCHESTRA I POMERIGGI MUSICALI DI MILANO, ORCHESTRA CANTELLI and MONICA DELLAVEDOVA QUINTET.

On the dates of July 30 July 27, September 7, 13 and 18 September you can enjoy a double show: the art of architecture from Varese who joins to classical music in charming frames ideal to spend your summer evenings, especially if you’re on vacation. The concerts are free or very low cost ticket, to give a chance to everyone to access.

There are still a few days to admire the beautiful puppets by Don Alberto Dell’Orto, the pastor in Gallarate with love for the theater and the animation. For lovers of the genre is an opportunity not to be missed.

A special initiative to celebrate fifty years of priesthood of Fr. Alberto Dell’Orto, priest and protagonist of culture gallaratese since 1964.
The exhibition of his puppets and marionettes, one of his greatest passions, was organized by the Museum of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, with the support of Comune di Gallarate, Museo BUT * GA and National Visual arts prize Città di Gallarate.

The collection, acquired by Don Alberto in the mid 70 ‘s by Ettore Cardani, counted 67 puppets, but I’m 66 now owned ones, all lovingly cleaned and restored.

Held in the Church of St. Anthony, the exhibition presents a very varied selection of puppets and marionettes, probably manufacture bergamasca: colourful masked faces and theatrical expression, with stage clothes.

Palio dei Castelli - Castiglione OlonaThis year are 39 the birthday candles for the big event Palio dei Castelli in Castiglione Olona, an unmissable appointment with the middle ages, in the heart of one of the most picturesque villages of Varese.

The 11th July  will kick off the traditional  historian kermis in castigione olona, which certainly represents one of the flagships of the province of Varese.

The theme of this edition traces the coronation moment at King of Italy of the Emperor Sigismund Of Hungary, held in Milan in 1431. But the Palio dei Castelli is not only a historical event. There is much more. From 11th July to 20th are provided for two intense weeks of performances, parades, games, but also food stands, concerts, exhibitions, even the finals of the World Cup 2014.

There are different don’t miss appointments. Note especially:

  • the procession of the official opening on Friday 11th July-20.30 hours;
  • the inauguration of the exhibitions Saturday 12th July: “Chronicles of the Seprio” – the comic boards published by Bacino delle Pro Loco Varese 7 –, “Draw the Palio” and Luca da Castiglione, painter of the Palio 2014;
  • the historical parade and the Race of the Circles on Sunday 13th July;
  • the historic procession, the spectacle of the Flag-wavers, the Race of the Barrels and the closing ceremony on Sunday 20th July.

The first weekend of July the vintage cars take to the track for the “XXIII Cup of Three Lakes Varese-Campo dei Fiori”, historical roots varesine event, to which the Club Macchine Moto Storiche Varese has given again life and competitive regularity since 1990.

A route of about 250 miles, with over 60 timed qualifying and Match Racing on Saturday evening, the exciting race in downtown. There will be teams that are not only from Italy but from all over the world. Therefore it wil be an opportunity to promote our beautiful country.

Not far from Hotel Ungheria, in the heart of town, fulcrum of the event will be the Piazza Monte Grappa, the Estensi Gardens and the Congress Center Ville Ponti.

The Astronomical Observatory of Campo dei Fiori, with its citadel of Nature Sciences, are among the most estimable but at the same time little known beauties of Varese territory. The visit, lasting about 30 minutes, consists of an introduction to the history and activities of the Citadel, followed by the vision of the cupola with the main telescope, meteorological and seismic room connected to the Pre-alpine and Geophysical Centre at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia.

A trip outside, immersed in the green of Campo dei Fiori, but also in astronomical and scientific knowledge. Suited to those who want to combine business with pleasure, feeding not only the spirit and the body but also the mind. On booking in advance and waiting list queue, guided tours are also possible.

The Observatory of Campo dei Fiori also opens to the public in some extraordinary events during the summer.

Special evening of music and astronomy in collaboration with Ensemble saxophones of Varese’s Civic Music Highschool.
To follow public astronomical observation with telescopes provided by the Association.

Sunday 20th July – From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. hours- Open doors at the Observatory

  • The forest and its animals
  • Paths in the trail “the forest”, visits to the Observatory and greenhouse, observing the Sun and educational workshops.
  • The guided tours to the trail start every half hour, from 10 a.m. to 15.30, and will have a maximum duration of 1 hour. The start will be from the entrance gate of the Citadel.

In collaboration with the Voluntary Ecological Guards (GEV) of the Park of Campo dei Fiori.

Tuesday 12th August – hours 20.30 – Evening dedicated to shooting stars “the Perseids”-Villa Toeplitz

In one of the most beautiful villas of the city of Varese, Villa Toeplitz, external presentation of the phenomenon of falling stars.
Following observation of the Perseids, the summer constellations and stars with telescopes provided by the Association.

Varese Lake and the World Championship of Rowing Under 23

sede lagoA truly unique opportunity, don’t miss. The Varese Lake in July will be the location of a global event, the World Championship of Rowing Under 23.

The great sports festival held on the banks of the Lake from 23th to 27th July, with 1.300 athletes from over 58 countries. Varese and the Tourism Agency is more than a year preparing for this event, with an organizing Committee that has a team of more than 500 teenagers volunteers.

To anticipate the World Championship over the next few days is expected another spectacular event, unprecedented this year. From 15th to 18th May in fact held International Para-race Rowing and Master (now in its eighth edition), accompanied by a corollary of extraordinary events: the third edition of the World Indoor Championship INAS, the inaugural International race INAS and National Meeting students and cadets.

To host the events will be of course the Association A.S.D. Canottieri Gavirate, a company that also incorporates the Federal Center for Adaptive category, and has a fully equipped gymnasium and a race field on the water regulatory type, 3 km long and divided into 8 lanes.
